Key Canadian Tax Deadlines to Know for 2026

Missing a tax deadline can mean interest charges and penalties from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Here are the key dates to keep in mind for the 2026 tax year.

Personal tax returns: For most individuals, the 2026 personal income tax return is due April 30, 2027.

Self-employed individuals: If you or your spouse or common-law partner is self-employed, the filing deadline is June 15, 2027. However, any balance owing for 2026 is still due April 30, 2027.

RRSP contributions: Contributions to your Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) must be made by March 1, 2027 to be deducted for the 2026 tax year.

Quarterly instalments: If you are required to pay tax by instalments, the due dates are March 15, June 15, September 15, and December 15.

Filing on time helps you avoid interest charges on amounts owing.
